Advice

Baruch College can use new media to improve the college in many different ways. Firstly, I would like to update and make some changes to the “Academic Calendar”. The calendar should provide the general registration date for “all students,” so that students will be able to plan ahead. Even sending out the semester calendar for students at the very beginning of the semester will help them plan ahead. Secondly, I’ll like to suggest that Baruch make changes to the login information, like “user ID and user Password” for the library, the computers at campus, and the campus Wi-Fi. Baruch “suggests” students and faculties to use the same format to access these facilities. For example: the user name is “first name initial. last name”  (j.thomas), and the password is “yyMmmdd + last 4 digit social number” (02Nov911234). I think having the same format for“passwords” might cause problems. For example,, if there is someone who knows your information, they will easily be able to access your account and misuse it. So, my suggestion would be to change the format of passwords and let the user choose how they want it.

  1. Hi Aye!

I completely agree with the points that you made. The beginning of each semester is when I have to go and find the academic calendar for the next few months. It would be great if they sent it out to us in an easier to use format! As someone who always forgets her password and username it is convenient for them to all be the same thing. However, I do understand where you are coming from with the privacy and the misuse of this information. Great points!

When it come to new type of new “new media,” we already have some many types of new media. However, I think we need the new media to help find missing people. For example, people can upload the mission person pic on that app and the public whoever using the app will get information in a sec and can help find the missing person. I think this is very important, because many of us don't know the missing person news until we see the news or read newspaper or read the advertisement.  If new media have a app for those “missing people,” I think that will be very helpful to everyone.

Creativity and New Media

https://myatthuzzar7.wixsite.com/unixshoes The above link is a website of my “UniX Soles” line. This website was created for one of my projects. The products on this site are from my imagination. The concept of the product is basically this: a shoe’s sole can charge electronic devices without using a power source except for what is generated in the shoe. The sole charges and gets its power from the motion of walking, hiking, running and basic movement. Also, it includes a small GPS tracking device to track people who are prone to getting lost. The benefits of using the product are (1) it can charge electronic devices and (2) send location signals for when someone is in distress.  Below is a model of my concept!

New media--such as social media, web and mobile technologies--are rapidly increasing usage in many modern industries.   All type of media is designed by humans, so there is no way you can expect social media to keep all your information safe and confidential. Most of us will never bother to read fine texts or terms and conditions but rush to sign up for any type of social media.   Let's take Facebook, for example; if you create an account on Facebook, and you are the only one person who will have access to it because you created it and that is your account. But Facebook was created by Mark Zuckerberg, who will have full access to all the Facebook user information because he is a founder of the software.   He can track anyone he likes because the user “agreed to the terms and policy” of Facebook. Users give permission to Facebook without realizing it.
